USA announces full support for Bathily.
Pulbished on:Washington, 4 September, 2022 (Lana) - The US State Department welcomed the appointment of Abdoulaye Bathily as head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
In a statement, the US State Department confirmed the United States' full support for the UN envoy, calling on the international community to work closely with him.
The statement added, "The United States encourages Special Representative Bathily to prioritize efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in Libyan state institutions, as well as the work of the United Nations Ceasefire Monitoring Mission, as it assists the Libyan 5+5 Joint Military Commission in overseeing the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces, fighters and mercenaries.”
The statement called on all parties concerned with the Libyan crisis to work in good faith to reach an agreement on a constitutional framework and a specific timetable for elections.
