Tripoli, April 21, 2024 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya expressed its deep sadness over the death of political activist Siraj Daghman while he was detained in the Rajma military camp.

In a statement issued today, Sunday, the mission expressed its sincere condolences to his family and urged the relevant authorities to conduct a transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The mission confirmed that it took note of the statement of the Internal Security Service in the east of the country regarding the death of “Daghman,” noting that he had been arbitrarily arrested and detained since the beginning of October 2023, along with (Fathi Al-Baja, Tariq Al-Bashari, Salem Al-Araibi, and Nasser Al-Daisi), and no charges have yet been brought against them, nor have they been charged. They appear before the court.

The UN mission called for the immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained individuals, including those detained with Daghman, renewing its calls for accountability and an end to kidnappings, disappearances and arbitrary arrests throughout the country.
