Discussing strengthening cooperation with the European Commission in the field of combating illegal immigration.

Tripoli, April 23, 2024 (LANA) - The meeting held yesterday, Monday, at the Department of European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via video technology, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Defense and experts from the European Union Commission, discussed cooperation in the field of combating illegal immigration.

The Ministry of the Interior stated that representatives from the ministry from the Anti-Illegal Immigration Service, the Criminal Investigation Service, the Border Guard Service, the General Administration of Coastal Security, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, and representatives of the military and security services concerned with the file of combating illegal immigration discussed with the European side the prospects for joint cooperation in this file in accordance with the strategy. 

  She added that this meeting is an important step that reflects the keenness of both sides to address this phenomenon, which constitutes a major challenge at the regional and international levels.

For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the participants in the meeting discussed the latest developments related to the file of illegal immigration and the negative phenomena accompanying it.

  She explained that the meeting stressed the need to join efforts and develop the mechanisms and tools used to confront the phenomenon of illegal immigration in line with the current political and security conditions witnessed by the African Sahel region and the resulting challenges and difficulties.
