Beijing, 31 August 2022 (Lana) China has called on all parties in Libya to exercise maximum restraint and resolve their differences through negotiations, and to avoid all forms of violence.

In a briefing to the UN Security Council meeting on Libya, the Chinese envoy said in remarks reported by the China News Agency on Wednesday that Beijing was deeply concerned about the recent clashes in the capital Tripoli, expressing hope that the Libyan parties will maintain the momentum of dialogue and negotiations achieved in the previous period.

China's deputy representative to the Security Council said the international community should adhere to the principle of a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned process, provide constructive assistance to the country, and avoid imposing a solution from abroad, calling on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to actively promote dialogue and negotiations between the Libyan parties.

The Chinese diplomat stressed that his country "welcomes the full resumption of Libyan oil production, and urges the parties to intensify consultation on the distribution of oil revenues, in order to ensure that the revenues of resources benefit the entire population.
