Tripoli, 7 February 2024 (Lana): The German Ambassador to Libya, Michael Ohnmacht, met with Layla Bin Khalifa, the first female candidate to run for the presidency in Libya, along with Member of the House of Representatives, Hanaa Abu Deeb.
According to a tweet by Ohnmacht during which he expressed his happiness about this meeting, “We discussed how to achieve change, move forward in the political process, and reach elections,” stressing the importance of the role of women in the political process.
In 2021, Ben Khalifa, head of the National Movement Party in Libya, submitted her candidacy file for the presidential elections, becoming the first woman to run for president in the history of Libya, and submitted her nomination papers at the headquarters of the High Electoral Commission in Tripoli.
