Pulbished on:

Tobruk, 1 September 2022 (Lana) The Speaker of the House of Representatives Ageela Saleh on Thursday addressed a letter to the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and the advisers of the High Court, regarding the laws regulating the High Court and the mechanism of their operation.

The letter, a copy of which was obtained by the Libyan News Agency (Lana), reads: "In the interest of the Libyan House of Representatives on the unity and independence of the judiciary, it issued its decision No. (6) of 2014 to reorganize the High Court, where the first article of it stipulated the temporary transfer of the seat of the meetings of the High Court to the city of Al Beidha, and based on this the convening of the Court in a non-legal place is considered incorrect and consequently invalid in terms of the measures it takes."

In the speech, the Speaker pointed out that the House of Representatives held its first meeting in 2014 as a successor to the General National Congress, and thus all decisions and laws issued by the General Congress after the end of its term are repealed, including but not limited to decision No. (50) of 2015 on the appointment of Mr. Mohammed Al-Qamoudi as President of the High Court, which was issued on 20/5/2015, because the path explicitly drawn by the draft to entrust the President of the High Court with the issuance of a decision to assign him to the legislative authority, and that the House of Representatives as a legislative and elected authority, no decision has been issued to assign the person concerned."
