Tripoli, March 5, 2024 (Lana): GNU Minister of Interior, Imad Trabelsi, said Libya had repatriated 10.000 illegal migrants last year, stressing that this phenomenon had become an obsession troubling Libya and the Mediterranean countries, and it worsened with the absence of a plan to address it, calling for mobilization of all security, political, and military authorities to reduce the danger of the influx of migrants.

Trabelsi's statements came during a session organized yesterday by the GNU Ministry of the Interior about its vision to enhance security and integrate border management to reduce illegal migration, under the slogan (Optimal solutions for border management for a better future.

Trabelsi said that Libya had repatriated 10.069 illegal immigrants last year in coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), expressing that this number will double this year if the necessary capabilities and conditions are available.

Trabelsi indicated the positive results achieved by security campaigns to control human smuggling gangs after securing the borders and preventing the increase in the number of illegal migrants.

Al-Trabelsi pointed out that a committee was formed from the Ministries of Interior and Labor to regulate expatriate workers, and residency permits had been granted to about 400,000 expatriate workers of different nationalities.
