WHO warns of worsening crisis in Sudan.

  Geneva - April 12, 2024 (LANA) - The World Health Organization (WHO) warned, on Friday, of the worsening of the crisis in Sudan in the coming months with continued restrictions on the distribution of humanitarian aid and medical supplies.

W.H.O, spokesman Christian Lindmeier said that time is running out, and without stopping the fighting and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, the Sudan crisis will worsen significantly in the coming months and could affect the entire region.

He added, "We see only a small trace of the real crisis, and the situation may be much more deteriorating than that," noting that 15 million inneed of urgent health assistance, especially since diseases such as cholera, malaria, and dengue fever are spreading.

Lindmeier said, that the medical supplies available in Sudan are estimated at about 25 percent of the needs, and that 70 to 80 percent of the health facilities in the country are not working due to the conflict, adding that in some states, such as Darfur, no medical supplies have reached them during the past year, and the outbreak of diseases are increasing with the disruption of public health services, including vaccinations.
