Ambassador Norland visits the Misrata Free Zone.

Tripoli, April 29, 2024 (LANA) - The American special envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, visited the Misrata Free Zone on Sunday evening.

Ambassador Norland described the visit as the first visit to meet officials and see facilities in the region, expressing in a tweet published by the American Embassy on its website on the X platform, his hope that this visit will strengthen relations between American companies and the free zone, which plays a vital role in Libya’s efforts to stimulate trade and economic activity. "

The ambassador’s visit to the city of Misrata also included a meeting with the council of elders and notables of the city, and in a speech he delivered on the occasion, he stressed the importance of the council’s role in pushing for peace and reconciliation and defending local issues that affect the daily lives of Libyans.”

On a topic related to the visit, Ambassador Norland praised, during his meeting with Aida Baayou from the Misrata Women’s Union and Asia Al-Shuwaidi from the Tawergha-Misrata Reconciliation Committee and the Women’s Community Initiative, “the importance of the role of civil society organizations in shaping decisions related to the central issues facing Libyan society.”
