UNICEF confirms that 990 people, including children, drowned in the Mediterranean Sea within two months.

New York, September 29, 2023 (LANA) - The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, announced that the Mediterranean Sea recorded the drowning of at least 990 people, including children, in the central region between June and August of this year.
UNICEF UN Coordinator Regina de Dominicis said that this rate is three times more than the same period in 2022, when about 334 people drowned.
She added that the tragic toll of children dying while seeking safety and refuge in Europe was the result of political choices and a failed immigration system.
