Luigi Di Maio: The Italian position was consistent with the French position on the future of Libya.

Rome, December 09, 2021 (LANA) - Italian Foreign Minister "Luigi Di Maio" said that his country's position was consistent with the French position over the past two years regarding the future of Libya, according to the Italian Nova news agency.

During a hearing before the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Italian House of representatives and Senate on the ‘’Corinale" treaty with France, Di Maio explained that the positions of both Italy and France were consistent regarding the future of Libya, but he indicated that the two European countries were adopting completely different positions on the issue. The Libyan crisis prior to taking office in September 2019.

As for the cooperation between Italy and France, the Minister said, when I took over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in September 2019, Italy and France were adopting completely different positions on Libya, which we recognize.

On November 26, Italy and France signed the "Corinale" treaty to end long years of differences between the two countries over the Libyan file and other foreign policy files of both countries.

"We hold a meeting every 6 months between the intelligence agencies of Italy and France thanks to the work of all institutions of the two countries, including parliamentarians, not just the government, to share information, including classified information," Di Maio added.

And Di Maio continued: "Now, we have the same position on the future of Libya, at all levels of the United Nations, the European Union, the Berlin conference and recently the Paris summit, whether with regard

to supporting national unity governments or the process that we have undertaken over the past two years to reach the formation of a government of national unity." He added, "We built the Treaty of

Corinale based on this model."
