Euro-Mediterranean Center for Human Rights calls on the Israeli occupation forces to reveal the fate of detainees from Gaza.

Pulbished on:

Gaza, January 06, 2024  (LANA) - The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor called on the international community to put pressure on the Israeli occupation forces to end the disappearance of hundreds of detainees from the Gaza Strip, and to reveal their fate and the conditions of their detention, confirming that it had received information about many of them being subjected to liquidation and field execution operations.

The Observatory said in a statement on Saturday that, what the Israeli military police announced about opening an investigation into an Israeli soldier’s killing of a Palestinian prisoner who was supposed to be guarding him is not an isolated or individual incident, confirming that it had received testimonies of dozens of detainees being subjected to similar shooting operations, especially while they were in Gaza strip prison.

The Observatory confirmed that it had received hundreds of reports about missing persons in the Gaza Strip, suspected that the occupation forces had arrested them from their homes or from shelter centers that they had raided in areas of their incursion into the Strip, and that dozens of them had been subjected to field killings, adding that these forces did not disclose the numbers of detainees from Gaza Strip, their names, or the conditions and places of their detention, which later allows it to evade its responsibilities for the crimes of liquidating some of them.

The Observatory indicated that the occupation forces had previously handed over, in two stages, dozens of unidentified bodies, in addition to handing over the bodies of several people through the International Committee of the Red Cross, without any information about the identity of the people or other details about their arrest.

It also explained that there are about seven thousand missing people, including children and women, whose fate is still unknown, and it is believed that the majority of them were killed under the rubble of homes destroyed by Israeli bombing, or in the streets, or disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
