Geneva, November 03, 2023 (LANA) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights confirmed that the situation in the occupied West Bank is “worrying” and requires urgent action, while emphasizing the violence practiced by settlers against the Palestinians.

Commission spokeswoman Elizabeth Trussell, explained, during a regular briefing in Geneva on Friday, that the situation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is “worrying and calls for urgent action in light of the continuing increasing violations.”

She said, "Settler violence, which had already reached record levels, has also increased remarkably, reaching an average of seven attacks per day, and more than a third of them using firearms."

She pointed out that, entire Palestinian communities are being forced to leave their lands due to these acts of violence, considering that this “may amount to a forced transfer of the population in serious violation” of the Geneva Convention.

The Commission for Human Rights reported that the occupation forces arrested about two thousand Palestinians, while “credible and consistent information indicates a new increase in cases of ill-treatment of detainees, which in many cases may amount to torture.”

Various parts of the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem witness daily raids and incursions into villages and towns by the Israeli occupation forces, accompanied by confrontations, arrests, and the firing of live and rubber bullets and poisonous tear gas bombs at Palestinian youth.
