Libya chairs the meetings on establishing a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in New York.

  New York, May 04, 2024 (LANA) - Libya chaired the meetings of the working committee, of the conference on establishing a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East in New York.

The Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations stated on its Facebook page that Ambassador Al-Taher Muhammad Al-Sunni, in his capacity as Chairman of the fourth session of the conference on establishing a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, chaired the second meeting of the working committee of the conference, in coordination with the United Nations Office. United Nations Disarmament Commission in New York.

Also explained that these meetings, which took place over three days, dealt with the item “peaceful uses of nuclear energy,” during which several scientific papers were presented by a group of experts from relevant international organizations.

According to the mission, the committee discussed current global frameworks and arrangements for peaceful uses, in addition to the priorities of Middle Eastern countries with regard to peaceful uses, safety and security practices.
