UN official discusses private sector development in Libya.

Tripoli, May 12, 2024 (LANA) - Minister of Local Government in the Government of National Unity, Badr al-Din al-Toumi, discussed with the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) country office, Christopher Laker, a number of topics to advance the movement of the Libyan economy, the economic diversification strategy, private sector development and entrepreneurship, small and medium enterprises based on value chains. .

The Minister discussed with Christopher Laker, his deputy Adel Mansour, and the comprehensive growth team, economists and finance, a number of issues of an economic nature, especially related to sustainable development goals and the role of municipalities in achieving those goals through their ability to prepare and implement plans. The role played by the Supreme Committee for sustainable local development, whose membership includes all Libyan municipalities, was discussed.

During the meeting, it was agreed in principle on aspects of cooperation and support in areas that would advance the path of transformation towards decentralization, digitization of procedures and opening real job opportunities that would contribute to increasing the private sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product.
