African Union Commission urges Somalia and Ethiopia to resolve the tension peacefully.

Mogadishu, January 04, 2024 (LANA) - The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Fakih, expressed his concern about the tension resulting from the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Ethiopia and the “Somaliland” region.

In a statement today, Thursday, according to the Somali News Agency (SONA), Fakih called on the two countries to adhere to calm respect and avoid any action that would harm the good relations between the Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Somalia, stressing the need to respect unity, territorial integrity and full sovereignty of all member states of the African Union. , including Somalia and Ethiopia, stressing the importance of following the principles of good neighborliness to promote and maintain peace, security and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

He urged the two countries to engage in a dialogue process without delay to resolve their differences in a constructive, peaceful and cooperative manner to strengthen and deepen their partnership for peace and security in the region. He reiterated that the African Union will stand strongly by their side to support the African solution to this new challenge.
