An international report reveals the extent of the disastrous effects caused by Storm Daniel on the regions of eastern Libya.

Tripoli, March 25, 2024 (LANA) - A report issued by the World Bank, the United Nations, and the European Union revealed the catastrophic effects caused by Storm Daniel, which struck the regions of eastern Libya last September.

The report, which was issued on the occasion of about 6 months since the disaster, said that Storm “Daniel” left dire effects affecting approximately 1.5 million people. This is equivalent to 22% of the Libyan population.

The report explained that the recovery and reconstruction needs in the wake of the catastrophic floods resulting from the storm are estimated at approximately $1.8 billion, and that the housing sector was the most affected, as an estimated more than 18.5 thousand housing units were destroyed or damaged, which is equivalent to 7% of the total residential units in Libya.
