Tripoli, December 14, 2021 (LANA) - The European Council has adopted a set of restrictive measures against the Wagner Group, due to its involvement in destabilizing activities in some of the countries in which it operates, including Libya.

The European Council said in a statement published by the European Union Mission to Libya today, Tuesday, that the Wagner Group is a private military entity based in Russia that recruits, trains and sends special military agents to various conflict areas around the world and works to fuel violence, loot natural resources and intimidate civilians in violation of international law, including: That is international human rights law.

The statement clarified that this entity is implicated in gross human rights violations, including torture, extrajudicial executions, arbitrary executions, and murder, or in destabilizing activities in some of the countries in which they operate, including Libya.

The statement stressed that "the European Union's decision comes as a strong signal of our determination to defend our values ​​in the Union and beyond, and our determination to take concrete measures against those who threaten international peace and security, and violate international law."
