Tripoli, December 26, 2023 (LANA) - The National Center for Disease Control confirmed a significant increase in respiratory disease infections, and a number of deaths were recorded in the country as a result of variants of the (Covid-19) virus. The World Health Organization announced the discovery of infections with this new variant of the Corona virus, which bears the name (1.IN).

The Center explained in a statement published today, Tuesday, about the situation in Libya that the cases recorded since the beginning of October ranged from simple to serious, with a number of deaths recorded. As a result, the National Center for Disease Control took samples through monitoring teams from those infected with symptoms of respiratory diseases from some hospitals, health centers, and laboratory analysis.

The center’s statement stated that most of the results of the samples taken were influenza virus (4), and they included serious cases and cases of acute respiratory syndrome, and a large percentage of respiratory infection cases were due to bacterial infection. Cases of coronavirus infection are considered few, and most cases of infection in children were the result of syncytial virus infection.

The Center expects, from the above mentioned, an increase in cases of Coronavirus infection during the coming near period as a result of the spread of the new mutant, which may cause an increase in hospitalization cases, especially for those in fragile groups such as (the elderly - those with chronic diseases - those with low immunity, etc.).

The National Center for Disease Control advises, based on the circulars and guidelines of the World Health Organization, to take all precautionary measures to prevent infection, including making sure to take influenza vaccinations, especially if you are at high risk of developing serious symptoms, and using masks in crowded, closed places, as well as poorly ventilated places.

It is also recommended to maintain a safe distance between you and others inside those places, to ensure good ventilation, and to maintain respiratory etiquette when coughing and sneezing by covering the mouth and nose, cleaning hands continuously, and taking care to stay at home when feeling the appearance of symptoms or the occurrence of infection, and not transmitting it to adults, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic diseases.

According to the World Health Organization statement, the mutant is considered to spread rapidly and may cause respiratory diseases ranging from minor to pneumonia in some cases. The organization also confirmed that the emergence of the mutant coincided with the spread of seasonal viruses such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, and pneumonia, this is common throughout childhood It increases the number of infections and their severity.
