Tripoli, May 6, 2024 (Lana) Representative of the Presidential Council (PC), Abdullah Al-Lafi, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Congo Brazzaville, Jean-Claude Gakosso, whose country chairs the African Union high-level committee on the Libyan issue, and the African Union’s advisor for reconciliation, Mohamed Al-Labat.

The meeting, which was attended by the Congolese Ambassador to Libya, discussed challenges and obstacles that led to the postponement of the inclusive national conference according to the date that was set during the previous preparatory meetings.

Al-Lafi stressed the importance of restoring confidence among all parties and that the PC is the legitimate body and not the ruler of the national reconciliation project, commending in the same context the role of the African Union Commission and Congo in searching for an inclusive solution to the Libyan crisis, especially the national reconciliation file, which will establish a new stage of stability and peace in Libya.

For his part, the Congolese minister stressed the importance of overcoming the causes of faltering efforts in order to continue work on the reconciliation file and to achieve the goal of the inclusive National Conference by building confidence again without excluding any party and commending the efforts of the PC in laying the foundations of reconciliation and stability in the country.
