UNSMIL expresses concern about the abduction of Al Dirsi.

Tripoli, May 19, 2024 (Lana): The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed its deep concern about the abduction of a member of the House of Representatives for Benghazi, Ibrahim Al Dirsi, calling upon the competent authorities to locate and secure his prompt release.
“The Mission urges authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Al Dirsi’s disappearance and to hold those accountable under the law,” UNSMIL stated in a tweet.
The Mission condemns all forms of arbitrary detention throughout Libya. Such acts undermine the rule of law and create a climate of fear.
The Mission also reminds authorities of their obligation to respect fundamental freedoms and uphold human rights and the rule of law.
