The High Elections Commission issues a decision to include municipal councils whose legal mandate has expired in the 2024 electoral process.

Tripoli, April 2, 2024 (LANA) - Today, Tuesday, the High National Elections Commission issued Resolution No. (54) of 2023 regarding the inclusion of municipal councils whose legal mandate has expired in the 2024 electoral process.

According to the Commission, the decision targeted the municipalities of Kikla, Misrata, Jalo, Al-Haraba, Kabaw, Al-Zawiya Al-Janoub, Al-Zawiya Al-Gharb, and Al-Rajban.

She indicated that this decision came in implementation of Law No. (20) of 2023 amending Law No. of 2013 by transferring the powers to elect municipal councils to the Commission instead of the executive authority represented by the government and the Ministry of Local Government. Article (2) referred to the formulation and issuance of the executive regulations for the election of Provincial and municipal councils to the Commission in accordance with Law No. (59) of 2012 regarding the local administration system.
