Roads and Bridges Authority reveals the damage percentage to infrastructure in the east of the country.

Tripoli, September 23, 2023  (LANA) - The Roads and Bridges Authority of the Ministry of Transportation of the National Unity Government announced, Friday, that the Emergency Technical Committee team has completed the work of assessing the damage to the road network in the eastern region resulting from the floods and torrential rains accompanying Storm “Daniel.”

The head of the department's emergency room, Hussein Suwaidan, said that the percentage of damage to the infrastructure in the affected areas is estimated at about 70%, while it reached about 50% on public roads.

Suwaidan confirmed that (11) bridges collapsed as a result of the floods, including two bridges linking Derna to the cities of Sousse and Al-Qubba, (6) others inside Derna, and (3) bridges on the road extending between Shahat and Sousse.

The Technical Committee for assesing the Damages, formed by the Roads Authority, announced that the collapsed road network in Derna is estimated at 30 kilometers, noting that the estimated affected area in the vicinity of the valley is estimated at 90 hectares.
