New York, May 14, 2024 (LANA) - The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Ahmed Khan, announced today, Tuesday, the launch of a road map for the work of the court’s team in Libya.

“Khan” said in his briefing to the UN Security Council on the situation in Libya, “I present to you two stages within a road map. The first is the investigation, and we intend to finish it by 2025. This stage will not be easy and requires cooperation with the authorities in Libya. He added that the second stage is the judicial stage, a completion stage.

He explained that the International Criminal Court will submit requests to issue additional arrest warrants through the investigation tracks, noting that the International Criminal Court team visited Libya 18 times and collected more than 800 pieces of evidence, including photographic and audio materials and information as forensic evidence.

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court added that we expect, during the coming period, additional visits from ICC members to Tripoli, pointing out that opening an ICC office in Tripoli will help implement Security Council Resolution 1970.

"Khan" said that the court is aware of the killing of former minister "Mahdi Al-Barghathi" and is evaluating the sufficiency of the evidence to issue an arrest warrant next year, noting that the International Criminal Court continues investigations into extrajudicial killings and kidnappings.

Khan said that the court documented reports of migrants being forced to participate in hostilities while under the control of militias.
