BRUSSELS, January 25, 2022 (LANA) - The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, announced that the possibility of deploying an election observation mission to Libya will be evaluated, as soon as the Libyans decide on a new electoral schedule.

This came during a meeting of European foreign ministers yesterday, Monday in Brussels, during which they exchanged views on the latest developments in Libya, especially the postponement of the elections that were scheduled to take place on December 24, 2021, according to the Italian Aki news agency.

The agency added that the ministers indicated that the country stands at an "important crossroads," stressing that the European Union remains committed to supporting the Libyans in holding free, fair, inclusive and credible elections as soon as possible.

Aki explained that the ministers affirmed the EU's priorities, which include "the right of Libyans to choose their representatives through elections" and "the liberation of the country from any foreign armed presence", and encouraged all stakeholders to agree on the way forward to give Libyans the possibility to vote in the elections. .
