Benghazi, May 6, 2024 (LANA) - Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, “Youssef Al-Aqouri,” today, Monday, discussed with the Ambassador of the European Union Mission to Libya, “Nicola Orlando,” and his accompanying delegation in the city of Benghazi, the latest political developments in the country, cooperation programs between the two sides, and the work of the mission. Al-Aqouri stressed the importance of the European Union’s role in supporting the stability of Libya, and that there is a close connection between the security and stability of Libya and Europe, stressing the position of the House of Representatives on the necessity of all foreign forces and mercenaries leaving Libyan territory to achieve stability in the country.

  Al-Aqouri, according to House of Representatives spokesman Abdullah Blihaq, called for more coordination on European Union support programs in order to achieve maximum benefit from them, reiterating the Foreign Affairs Committee’s interest in the programs of the European Union mission to support border security.

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives stressed the necessity of joint coordination between Libya and the European Union to confront the unprecedented migration flows, which have become a major challenge for everyone, offering his thanks to the European Union mission for the support that the Union provides to Libya in various aspects, especially after the occurrence of the Hurricane Daniel disaster.

For his part, Orlando said that the European Union will continue its support for Libya, especially in the field of capacity building, stressing the European Union’s keenness to support the United Nations mission, and expressing the concern of the European Union member states about the situation in Libya and what is related to foreign interventions.
