Dabaiba and von der Leyen discuss the issue of irregular migration and renewable energies

Brussels, May 15, 2024 (LANA) - The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, “Abdel Hamid Dabaiba,” and his accompanying delegation, held a meeting at the European Union headquarters in Brussels today, Wednesday, with the President of the European Union Commission, “Ursula von der Leyen,” to follow up on a number of common issues between the Union and Libya which focused on following up on the issue of irregular migration and cooperation in the fields of renewable energies.

The Prime Minister's Media Office stated that "Der Leyen" welcomed the progress achieved in the field of irregular migration and the development of cooperation between the European Union and Libya in this file, praising the cooperation between Malta, Italy and Libya in determining energy supply paths aimed at producing alternative energy, praising the International Conference on Irregular Migration. and the regular and border security conference scheduled to be held in Tripoli in mid-July with the participation of relevant European Union countries.

The office explained that “Dabaiba” stressed during the meeting that Libya is a transit country and not a source country and that this is the basis for cooperation on this file, and that it is necessary for the European Union to provide the necessary support and activate the southern border control agreement concluded between the two sides, stressing the need to increase cooperation between Libya and the European Union is in the alternative energy file because of its importance to the state of Libya as well as to the European Union.

The Acting Minister of the Interior, the Head of the Renewable Energy Agency, the Head of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Libyan Ambassador to the European Union, and the European Union Ambassador to Libya participated in the meeting.
