General Secretariat of the Union of Arab News Agencies calls on Libyan officials to intervene to stop the attack on the historic building of the Libyan News Agency.

Pulbished on:

Beirut, May 2, 2024 (LANA) - The Secretary-General of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), Farid Ayar, denounced the storming of the historic building of the Libyan News Agency in the capital, Tripoli, which includes the Department of Administrative and Financial Affairs, the Financial Department, and the Office of the Legal Counsel, and locking its doors with red wax,  preventing its employees from entering it to carry out their work, describing this event as “far from any democratic behavior and an attack on freedom of expression.”

Ayar called on Libyan officials concerned with media affairs to “conduct the necessary investigations and break the captivity of this media institution, which produced generations of media officials who assumed leadership positions in Libya and prominent journalistic pens at the national and Arab-regional levels.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the General Secretariat of the Union appealed to the officials in the Presidency of the Libyan House of Representatives, the Presidential Council, and the Attorney General to quickly intervene to stop this unjustified attack against a prestigious media institution, stressing that “the best civilized path in established countries is not to close the doors of media institutions with red wax, but rather to open them wide, because this represents one of the pillars of democratic societies that contribute to achieving social and economic growth in the service of the Libyan people who, according to the statement, are in great need of hearing the truth and working to establish a stable state that can gain the respect of the entire world and enable all the Libyan people to live in freedom, security and safety.
