Tripoli, 3 May 2016(Lana) The Libyan Freedom of Press Centre has
affirmed that freedom of the press in Libya has been negatively
affected by the state of instability and conflict in the country.
In its annual report issued on the International Journalism Day
which falls on May 3, the Centre said it documented 118 cases of
assaults against journalists and media organisations, 18 per cent of
them classified as attempted murder and threatening, 19 per cent as
kidnap and torture, 21 per cent as arbitrary arrests and coercive
disappearance, and 13 cases of beatings and banning from work.
The Centre also said it classified 27 cases of assaults against
journalists and media organisations in Libya in the first half of
2016, including two arbitrary arrests and one assault against media
organisations.
The press watchdog 'Reporters Without Borders' has put Libya in 164
place regarding freedom of the press, and said it was one of 30 most
dangerous countries for journalists.
