Tripoli, June 10, 2025 (LANA) - Russia and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) affirmed their joint commitment to building a unified and stable Libyan state, based on strong institutions that represent the interests of all segments of the Libyan people without exception, within the framework of an inclusive political process that includes all influential national forces.
This came during consultations held by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, via videoconference, with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya, Hanna Tetteh. The consultations addressed the coordination of international efforts to advance the resolution of the ongoing Libyan crisis, according to a statement by the Russian Embassy in Libya on Tuesday.
During the call, the two sides discussed developments in Libya and the prospects for a comprehensive settlement. They emphasized the importance of good faith and concerted international efforts aimed at ending the protracted conflict, with the United Nations playing a leading role.
The Russian side reiterated its full support for UN envoy Tetteh, expressing its readiness to enhance cooperation with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and contribute to bridging the gap between the Libyan parties, taking into account Russia's constructive relations with the main Libyan stakeholders.
