Moscow, 6 December 2020(Lana) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavarov said his country was concerned over lack of resolution of the
issue of appointing a new UN envoy to Libya, pointing to US
obstruction of a solution for several months.
'We are concerned over non-appointment of an envoy, and our
American friends are obstructing a decision for long months,
ignoring the AU position and trying to dictate their conditions and
refusing a compromise, Lavarov said in statements carried by the
Russian Sputnik news agency.
Lavarov said Russia was particularly concerned about the
situation in Libya, indicating that there was no progress on the
political track, and failure of recent talks to produce any progress
that all hope.
The main task for Moscow at this stage is to assist Libyans to
overcome the problem of lack of distrust among the Libyan parties and
find common ground without imposing prescribed solutions or making
one group a priority.
