Islamabad, May 04, 2024 (LANA) - Pakistan announced the success of the first launch of an orbital vehicle to the surface of the moon, including a satellite, from the Chinese site (Henan), which represents a historic achievement for the Pakistani space program.

Radio Pakistan reported on Friday that Pakistan had launched its first mission to lunar orbit in cooperation between the Pakistan Space Technology Institute, the Pakistan National Space Agency, and the Chinese University of Shanghai.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed their congratulations to the Pakistani nation on the successful launch of Pakistan's first lunar mission.

"This achievement will help build Pakistan's capacity in the field of satellite communications, besides opening new avenues for scientific research, economic development and national security," the Prime Minister said in a statement.

This vehicle will orbit the moon for several months to collect detailed and accurate data and images from all sides and locations on the moon's surface. The main goal behind this space mission will be to support scientific research, promote technological progress, and stimulate educational initiatives in the field of space exploration.

The scientists and engineers participating in this mission hope that the data and images they will obtain from the satellite will contribute to increasing understanding of the moon’s geology, its surface composition, and the history of its development.
