Libya to host the 53rd meeting of the UNWTO.

Kuwait, February 11, 2026 (Lana) The participating countries in the 52nd meeting of the Regional Commission for the Middle East of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UNWTO) unanimously voted to select Libya to host the 53rd meeting of the Regional Commission for the Middle East.
This came during the regular meeting of the Regional Commission, hosted by Kuwait on Wednesday, with the participation of several tourism ministers from member states, along with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budaiwi, and representatives of the UNWTO.
The GNU-Ministry of Tourism and Traditional Industries considered this vote a culmination of the efforts of the Libyan delegation participating in the meeting, headed by Minister Nasr al-Din al-Fazzani, where the delegation presented a report reflecting the development of the Libyan tourism sector and convincing the participants of Libya's right to host this meeting and its ability to host regional and international events.
In a statement on this occasion, Minister Al-Fazzani expressed his gratitude to the GNU for its continued support of the tourism sector within the "Return to Life" project, emphasizing that this vote reflects the strengthening of Libya's position and presence at the regional and international levels and aligns with the positive indicators of tourism recovery in Libya and the return of international confidence in its organizational and institutional capabilities.
He affirmed that this selection is an important step towards restoring Libya's standing on the regional tourism map and supporting efforts to open up and integrate with its Arab and international neighbors.
