Pulbished on:
Algiers, 22 December 2020(Lana) The African Union Commissioner
for Peace and Security Smail Chergui said the African organisation
was seeking to consolidate the ceasefire in Libya, to put an end to
terrorist groups which threaten the security and stability of the
countries in the region.
'The main concern of the African Union is to consolidate the
ceasefire in Libya to curb the activity of the terror groups which
threaten the security and stability of the region Chergui told a
France 24 'Discussion' program.
Chergui said an opportunity should be seized as all Libyan
parties expressed a desire to stop foreign intervention and pull out
all of foreign fighters from the country.
Chergui said the AU was working with the UN to settle the Libyan
conflict particularly after the Berlin Conference outcome, indicating
that regular meeting was convened two weeks ago which brought
together all participants in the Berlin Conference to discuss the
political and security situation in Libya.
