UNSMIL in Coordination With Anti-Migration Body Repatriates 133 Migrants to Niger.
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 9 December 2018(Lana) The UN Support Mission in Libya
has said that in coordination with the International Organization of
Migration IOM, it has recently repatriated 133 migrants from Libya to
Niger, after being kept at a detention and repatriation centre DRC in
Tripoli which was opened in the last days.
The DRC is the first of its kind in Libya, and aims to bring in
desperate people, subject of organization attention, to a safe
environment where the commission can offer sustainable solutions
outside Libya such as re-settlement of refugees, family re-union,
transfer to emergency centres in a third country repatriation to the
country where refugee status was requested and voluntary
repatriation.
The Supreme Commissioner Filippo Grandi said 'the opening of the
centre will provide emergency protection and safety for the most
vulnerable refugees and those in need of urgent transfer outside
Libya, and provides an alternative to detention with hundreds of
refugees in Libya.'
