Algeria is seeking an immediate cease fire in Gaza.

New York, February 18, 2024 (LANA) - Diplomats at the United Nations headquarters are currently circulating information indicating that the United Nations Security Council is likely to vote the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, on an Algerian effort to push the 15-member council to demand an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons in the brutal occupation army war on the Gaza Strip.

Diplomats said that Algeria asked the Council yesterday, Saturday, to vote on Tuesday on the UN Security Council resolution, of which requires the approval of at least 9 votes, and for none of the five permanent members to use their veto power.

Reuters reported that the Algerian mission to the United Nations had presented a preliminary draft resolution in this regard more than two weeks ago, but the US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, was quick to say that the text might jeopardize “sensitive negotiations”, which aims to mediate a temporary cessation of the war.
