Tedros, stressed that the United Nations was established to promote peace, adding, "If you, all member states of the United Nations, will not or will not be able to stop this bloodbath, then we must ask: What is the benefit of the United Nations?"
He said in a speech via video technology before the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday, Friday, that “the scale of the Israeli response appears increasingly unjustified... and we are witnessing the destruction of lives and property on a horrific scale.”
The Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has exceeded 11,500 people, as well as injuries and missing persons.
He also said that the world is witnessing "the destruction of civilization, the rules-based order and trust between countries," describing the crisis as "a critical test for the United Nations, and for you, its member states."
