AU Commission expresses its concern about the continuation of financing terrorist activities in Africa.

Addis Ababa, November 08, 2023 (LANA) - The African Union Commission expressed its concern about the continued financing of terrorist activities in Africa, in particular the growing links between terrorism and transnational organized crime, and about the growing threat to peace, security and stability in Africa, which undermines the African Union’s efforts to silence weapons in Africa by 2030.

In a statement issued by the African Union Peace and Security Council following a meeting on combating terrorism in Africa, the Commission affirmed that threats to peace and security in Africa impede progress towards achieving the aspirations of the 2063 Agenda for Africa’s development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The council renewed the African Union's determination to rid Africa of terrorism and violent extremism, calling on the member states of the African Union to take the necessary measures to ensure that their territories are not used as havens for terrorists.
