Tobrouk, 04.04.2016 (Lana) Water and Sanitation Company in
Tobrouk has warned against imminent water crisis in the city due to
its reliance on a desalination plant that was set up in 2000 and
suffers shortages in potentials and has not undergone routine
maintenance for 12 years.
Director of the Company, Tariq Al-Sharief said ignoring
maintenance of the sole desalination plant in the city reduced its
output, pointing out that it produces about 35,000 cubic meters which
are not enough for the population of the city.
Things are further aggravated by encroachment on main water
supply lines between the plant and main tanks by making illegal
connections squandering over half of the production of the plant, he
added.
He also said the water network is oil and needs maintenance as
water leakage is estimated at between 3000 to 5000 cubic meters a
day..
