Italian Defence Minister: Italy Should Have Leading and Coordinating Role in Libya.
Pulbished on:
Rome, 23 February 2106(Lana) Italian Defence Minister Roberta
Benote has said that 'Italy should have a leadership and coordinating
role within a comprehensive strategy in Libya'.
In an interview with the Italian El messaggero newspaper, Benote
said there was nothing unusual about the use of Sigonella Air Base in
Sicily by US drones against Da'esh, since the base is being used by
the US as part of a treaty that goes back to the last century.
Italy is not just a country that contain military bases, because
the goal of US drones is not linked restricted to Libya, but rather
to protect axes and cadres of the US and alliance forces all over the
region, she said.
The Italian Minister said this decision was not linked to
acceleration of operations in Libya.
