Tripoli, 20.10.2015(Lana) An agreement to set up a handicraft
village to preserve traditional handicraft and historical cities. was
signed Tuesday at Soap House building formerly Qarhmanli House.
The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister of Industry for
Industrial Development Affairs, Massoud Al-Aswad, and Director of
Historic cities, Omran Al-Raqiq.
In a speech, Al-Aswad said the ministry is endeavoring to ease
difficulties in cooperation with department of historic cities to
bring the project into being. He also referred to the problems facing
traditional industry in Libya. He underlined the significance of the
traditional industries being part of Libyan identity and humanity's
legacy.
Director of Historic Cities, Omran Al-Raqiq, referred to the
difficulties faced by traditional industry and disappearance of some
of it during the past four decades and which led to the deterioration
of the industry.
"Libya is a vast country and traditional industry can be a
source of income for as well as to Libyan families and contribute to
the revenues from tourism.
In an exclusive statement to Lana reporter, Deputy Minister of
Industry for Industrial Development Affairs, Massoud Al-Aswad, said
the ministry has for months been conducting a national survey of
traditional handicrafts in several Libyan cities besides their
classification such as leather industry, Copper, Precious metals, and
food staff. He said the objective of the survey is to preserve this
ancient legacy.
