Sebha, June 16, 2025 (LANA) - The Libya Authenticity Association for Heritage and Arts in the city of Sabha discussed, during its meeting held yesterday evening, the initial preparations for organizing a cultural festival dedicated to heritage and traditional arts. The festival aims to revive popular heritage and promote its authentic values.
In a statement to the Libyan News Agency (LANA), the association's president, Hassan Taher, explained that the planned festival seeks to "highlight the heritage of our forefathers and introduce the noble values and authentic principles that this heritage carries, especially to the younger generation."
Taher added that the festival will include a display of heritage artifacts, including traditional and home-made crafts for which southern women are famous, as well as clothing, furnishings, perfumes, and traditional decorative items. A number of manuscripts and documentary photographs will also be on display, highlighting the landmarks of the old city and its historic buildings.
The festival will be accompanied by a cultural program that includes readings of popular and classical poetry, live demonstrations of customs and traditions, and workshops introducing traditional crafts, with the participation of civil society organizations concerned with heritage across the Fezzan region.
The association's president indicated that the association intends to produce visual and audio episodes documenting the popular cultural heritage of the southern region, as part of its efforts to preserve and promote Libyan cultural identity among new generations.
Taher confirmed that the association will coordinate with official bodies and cultural organizations to invite guests and tourist delegations from across Libya to visit the old city of Sabha and learn about its unique heritage landmarks.
It is worth noting, that the Libya Authenticity Association for Heritage and Arts was founded in 2012, aiming to preserve and promote popular and cultural heritage at the local and national levels.
