Cairo, September 13, 2024 (LANA) - Libya's Permanent Ambassador to the Arab League, Abdul Muttalib Thabet, called for unifying the Arab position on the Palestinian issue and adhering to the principles of the United Nations Charter and its resolutions related to Palestine.

The ambassador stressed in a speech during an urgent meeting of permanent representatives that achieving just and lasting peace in the region goes through recognizing the State of Palestine and its full membership in the United Nations.

He explained the extent of the connection to a project built on a world governed by international law, in which countries are equal and international resolutions are applied to everyone without exception, indicating that everyone is meeting today, in this important forum, to reaffirm this noble goal, and to work to unify ranks in the face of one of the greatest challenges facing humanity in our time, which is the Palestinian issue.

He added that the Palestinian people are suffering under the burden of an unjust occupation and ongoing aggression that violates the most basic human rights and defies all international laws and norms, calling on the international community to assume its full responsibilities, and work to end this conflict and establish an independent Palestinian state in accordance with relevant international resolutions.

The participants in the meeting stressed the need to intensify international efforts to support the rights of the Palestinian people and reject all forms of Zionist aggression against them. They also stressed the importance of joint action to achieve the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.

The participants stressed the importance of activating the role of the Arab League in supporting the Palestinian issue, and called for holding an emergency meeting of the League Council at the level of foreign ministers to discuss developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.
