New Delhi, May 28, 2024 (LANA) - The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed on Tuesday the great importance that New Delhi attaches to bilateral relations between Libya and India, announcing the reopening of its embassy in Tripoli in the near future.

This came during a meeting between the Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Government of National Unity, “Mohammed Khalil Issa,” at the headquarters of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Assistant Undersecretary of the Indian Foreign Ministry for West Asian and North African Affairs, “Suresh Kumar,” to discuss activating the agreements signed between them the two countries, and facilitating the entry of Indian workers into Libya.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “Issa” presented during the meeting the development projects being implemented, and the safe and stable situation in Tripoli and all of Libya, which encouraged many foreign and Asian companies in particular to return and follow up on their stalled projects, expressing his encouragement for the Indian commercial and industrial sector to follow suit.

The two sides agreed, according to the ministry, to activate all agreements and memorandums of understanding concluded between the two friendly countries, most notably the activation of the Political Consultation Committee, and to work on convening the Libyan-Indian Joint Committee.

The ministry indicated that the Indian Foreign Ministry has appointed a resident charge d'Affaires at its embassy in Libya, and once the embassy's work resumes, procedures for the influx of Indian workers to Libya will follow.

The Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Khalil Issa, also held several meetings in the Indian capital with the Undersecretary of the Indian Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas, the Federation of Indian Industry, and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
