Tripoli, January 30, 2024 (Lana): The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul-Hamid Dabaiba, announced yesterday that his country is at war against human traffickers, according to NOVA News Agency.

Dabaiba said in an interview with NOVA on the sidelines of the Italian-African Summit in Rome, “Libya is at war against human traffickers who send migrants to die at sea", but also against all criminals involved in the smuggling of oil, fuel, and drugs.”

The PM explained that Libya's UN-recognized executive, referring to his government in 2023, launched a campaign against human traffickers and fuel smugglers nestled along the coasts of Tripoli, also using attack drones to combat these activities.

“I think this is a war—a continuous war against human trafficking and also against other criminals. Let's stop fuel trafficking, along with other trafficking such as cocaine. It's a complicated issue,” he said.

“Libya does not export migrants but is a transit country for those trying to reach European coasts. We are just on the route from Africa to Europe. Libya is just a hub, the last stop before the sea. Our country's capacity is limited, calling on the European side, especially the Italian government, to collaborate and help us fight this type of phenomenon,” he added.
