Libya won the seat of Vice-President of the forty-second session of the General Conference of UNESCO.

Paris, November 12, 2023 (LANA) - Libya won the seat of Vice-President of the forty-second session of the General Conference of UNESCO, during the election process that was held at the meeting held at the organization’s headquarters in the French capital, Paris, in the presence of representatives of 194 countries.

The Ministry of Education said on its Facebook page that Libya’s victory in the seat of Vice President of the session comes as a culmination of the efforts made by the Minister of Education, Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, and the Permanent Representative of the State of Libya to the organization, along with regional and international partners.

The page quoted Al-Magarif as emphasizing the importance of this victory in enhancing national participation in the organization’s main bodies, keeping pace with the educational, cultural and scientific movement and benefiting from it in developing and activating many initiatives and programs of national priority.

The minister explained that the announcement of Libya’s victory as a member of the current session’s deputy, along with 30 other countries, was announced during the recommendations of the organization’s Executive Council, by electing the president of the General Conference, the vice-presidents, the chairmen of the committees, their vice-chairmen, and their rapporteurs. In implementation of the provisions of Articles 29, 33 and 46 of the Rules of Procedure of the General Conference, and in accordance with the recommendations of the Executive Council regarding the organization of the work of this session.

Al-Magarif, in his capacity as head of the Libyan delegation participating in the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference, presented on November 10th the document of ratification of the Convention for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of 2003, during an official ceremony held at the main headquarters of UNESCO.
