BatIli stresses that Libya cannot be built with endless transitional arrangements.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, July 30, 2023 (LANA) - The head of the United Nations Mission in Libya, "Abdullah Batili," said that Libya cannot be built with endless transitional arrangements, and that the time has come to complete the election laws so that citizens can choose who they want.
In his speech during the opening of the Forum of Elders, Experts and Elites of Fezzan in Tripoli, Batili stressed the need for a unified government and parliament to build a new Libya, which can only be built through an electoral process in which the parliament and the head of state are elected transparently.
The UN envoy added that the future of Libya does not depend only on the House of Representatives and the state, but rather on the aspirations of the Libyans, stressing that all those who want to arrange for new governments want to share the cake.
Batili stressed that citizens want development in all regions, and that the United Nations is here to enable support and establish peace, and communicates with all parties, which is the only way to stabilize the country.
The UN envoy called on Libya's international and regional partners to create conditions inside the country, considering this a strategic duty to help unify and reunite the Libyans.
Batili called on all security and military parties to commit to securing the elections, explaining that the United Nations is not here to favor anyone, but rather to provide solutions to the country, and works to support the Libyans and bring them together, and we do not seek to favor one party at the expense of another.
Batili added that the House of Representatives and the state assume responsibility towards those they represent and reach an agreement regarding the elections, pointing out that going to elections and achieving stability is the only language I use when I speak with Libyan leaders.
