The European IRINI operation monitored 21 of them in implementation of its powers to monitor the arms embargo on Libya.
The agency said in a report it published that the European naval operation known as "IRINI" continued to monitor 25 airports and runways, 16 ports and oil stations, and investigated 348 commercial ships out of 8,146 by radio, while conducting field visits on board 12 ships.
Nova indicated that Operation IRINI has so far submitted 41 reports to the United Nations Panel of Experts on Libya, most of which relate to violations or potential violations of the arms embargo and oil smuggling activities in the west and east of the country.
According to its monthly report, Operation IRINI issued, through the Criminal Information Cell, two recommendations out of 75 inspections of a suspicious ship in the ports of the member states of the European Union.
After the first Berlin Conference, the Council of the European Union decided, on March 31, 2020, to launch a new operation called "IRINI", which is mainly a naval operation and focuses on implementing the United Nations arms embargo on Libya.
IRINI is part of the integrated European approach to Libya, which includes political, military, economic and humanitarian efforts to achieve stability and security in the country.
The tasks of the operation are to combat the illicit arms trade, support the implementation of the arms embargo imposed on Libya on the basis of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions which is the main task, along with gathering information about oil smuggling, in particular its consequences for the Libyan economy. its potential use in financing the arms market; As well as contributing to disrupting the migrant smuggling business model by collecting information from the air and sharing it with Frontex and relevant national authorities, and supporting the development of search and rescue capabilities for the Libyan Coast Guard and Navy through training, the latter activity has yet to be implemented.
