A Libyan parliament member calls for the demarcation of the border between Libya and Algeria.
Pulbished on:Ghat January 05, 2023 (LANA) - A member of the House of Representatives for the Abu Salim - Al-Hadba region called Dr. Souad Abdullah, the executive authority in Libya, called for seeking to demarcate the border between Libya and Algeria, against the background of rumors that the border area in the far southwest of Libya had been penetrated from the Algerian side for a few kilometers at the level of the village of Essin near the city of Ghat.
In a statement to the Libyan News Agency (LANA) in Ghat, on the sidelines of her visit, as part of a delegation from the House of Representatives, to a number of cities in the south of Libya, Souad Abdullah confirmed that the demarcation of the Libyan borders with neighboring countries has become necessary to avoid any problems and remove all ambiguity.
Observers of the Libyan local affairs believe that some neighboring countries may have taken advantage of the crisis situation in Libya and committed transgressions in the border areas at the expense of Libyan lands.
Last December, the Libyan Parliament announced its rejection of Egypt's declaration of unilateral demarcation of the maritime borders, without any previous consultations.
The Committee, Defense and National Security in the House of Representatives, expressed their surprise that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi signed the decision to demarcate the maritime borders with Libya unilaterally and without consultations at this difficult time that Libya is going through, and considered that step a violation of Libyan interests in the Mediterranean.
The national unity government and the parallel government emanating from the House of Representatives condemned the Egyptian move and considered it a violation of Libyan sovereignty.
