Tripoli, 20 April, 2022 (Lana) - The Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Rizdon Zeninga, met in Tripoli, Tuesday, members of the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5) from the western region.

The mission said in a statement on its Facebook account that the meeting came after Zeninga met in Benghazi last week with members of the committee from the eastern region about the measures announced in their statement issued on April 9, including the decision to suspend their work.

The mission added that Zeninga conveyed today to the members of the committee the concerns of their counterparts in the east about the current situation and its impact on livelihoods in the eastern region.

For their part, members of the committee informed Zeninga of their recent contact with their colleagues in the east and their efforts to address some of their requests, expressing their hope that the committee’s work will resume soon and their concern about the repercussions of the measures announced, including the suspension of oil production, which is now being implemented according to mission.

The mission indicated that the members of the Joint Military Committee expressed their great appreciation to their counterparts in the east and stressed the importance of not politicizing the work of the committee, which may undermine the achievements of the 5 + 5 committee combined.

For his part, Zeninga reiterated the mission's commitment to continue efforts to facilitate a solution to the issues raised by members of the Committee from the east that now endanger the work of the Committee and the progress made on the security track.
